Use the seasons as a reminder to review your settings, lawn conditions and manufacturer’s maintenance instructions.

Spring: restart with a walk-through.

Before resuming regular mowing, inspect the lawn for fallen branches, exposed roots and landscape changes. Review the dock, boundaries and access routes. Follow the mower manual for cleaning, blades and charging. Test a mowing run and adjust the schedule to actual grass growth.

Summer: give your grass room to grow.

Ohio State Extension recommends 3 inches or higher for a typical residential lawn. Match cutting height to your grass and conditions, and avoid treating a robot’s lowest setting as the goal. Mowing frequency should follow growth; dry or stressed turf may need a different schedule.

Autumn: clear the way and plan storage.

Keep leaves and branches from interfering with the mower. As growth slows, review the schedule and prepare for storage according to the exact model manual. Confirm whether any seasonal service plan includes pickup, inspection or storage rather than assuming those are part of support.

Winter: follow the model’s storage instructions.

Protect the mower and its battery using the manufacturer’s specified storage conditions. What happens to the dock, reference station and power supply varies by system. Husqvarna’s guidance distinguishes indoor storage of the mower from equipment that may remain outside. Avoid applying one brand’s charging instructions to another.

All year: know what the robot does not replace.

Keep a plan for lawn edges, leaves, fertilizer and other care. Clear toys and debris before mowing, use stay-out areas where needed and follow the safety instructions around people, pets and wildlife. Inspect blades and contact the appropriate service provider when performance changes.
